Ukrainian New Year and Mayor’s Levée

All are invited to join Mayor Pankow and his family to celebrate the New Year! This event runs from 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. for a day full of free family fun, a delicious Ukrainian feast, music and public skating at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. Parks Canada celebrates the Rideau Canal’s 186 year of continuous operation. Come enjoy the water from any of this UNESCO World Heritage Site’s 24 lockstations (four of which are found right in Smiths Falls!) that take you cross-country from Ottawa to Kingston.

Railway Museum Opening and Train Rides

Fly-In Breakfast

Rain or shine, breakfast is served in the hangers at the Smiths Falls and Montague Airport beginning at 9 a.m., with a fantastic view of the aerodrome where pilots and a wide variety of planes fly in from across Ontario and Quebec. Chat with the pilots and see the planes! The Smiths Falls Flying Club offers 20-minute sightseeing flights, piloted by the club’s instructors, for a reasonable price. See the beautiful Rideau Lakes and the historic communities of Smiths Falls and Merrickville!

Heritage House Museum Open House

For 37 years the Heritage House Museum has welcomed guests and celebrated the fascinating stories of Smiths Falls’ past. As the museum starts another season, drop by the museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and discover new exhibitions, go behind the scenes to view the collections storage area, and tour through the newly renovated shed with new displays of rarely seen items. Special guests will include some of the private collectors from Smiths Falls. Don’t forget to enjoy a sample from our indoor brick bake oven and take a moment to explore the picturesque grounds and historic architecture. Admission is $5 per person.

Kids’ Flight Day

Join the Smiths Falls Flying Club and Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) at the Smiths Falls and Montague Airport between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. (weather permitting) and children aged 7 to 17 will have an opportunity to take a flight in various pilots’ aircraft. The 20-minute flights are designed to promote interest in general aviation in youth.

Come to Centennial Park between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.  for a day of family-friendly fun in the sun! The bicycle decorating contest and parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. Urban Jungle Obstacle and Fitness Challenge

Take part in this 5-and-10-plus-kilometre run through the town of Smiths Falls and over more than 30 obstacles, including cars, trains, walls stairs, trails, water, roads, and of course, mud, mud, MUD! This event is open to all ability levels, including elite runners. All funds raised go to Lower Reach Park and other local charities. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Victorian Christmas Tea Party

Visit the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and share in the sights, sounds and flavours of a traditional Christmas Tea. The sounds of carols sung by local musicians around the grand piano and the memories of a bygone era await you! Gather around a traditionally decorated tree in the parlour and enjoy a cup of tea or hot apple cider with some home-baked seasonal treats. Experience a Christmas of the past with traditional decoration throughout the museum and even a visit from a jolly old soul, Saint Nicholas himself! During your visit you can also view original artwork as part of the 37th Annual Art Show & Sale and pick up some unique gifts in the museum’s giftshop. Admission is $5 per adult.
