Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County is a not for profit volunteer organization which helps children develop to their unique potential through consistent, dependable and non-conditional adult friendship.
We believe all children should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. In providing these opportunities, the children will enhance their personal development as well as become engaged citizens in their community.
We believe that by changing the course of young lives we can in turn be changing the course of our community’s future. That it could lead to a reduction in poverty and unemployment; to safer schools and neighbourhoods; to a renewed optimism for growth. We believe that it has the potential to lead to change on a broader, more far-reaching scale.
We believe that opening a child’s eyes to “what is” opens his/her mind to “what could be.”
We are Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County, and we believe in the value of mentoring.
Neighbourhood Daycare and Drop-in Centre is dedicated to providing a warm and inviting atmosphere that allows children to develop at their own pace. We believe that children need to have a positive self-image. We foster that image, along with their developmental growth in the areas of intellectual, social, physical, and emotional skills, through a variety of group activities , individual play, and quiet periods. Our program makes use of many play and learning materials that help the children gain confidence in their abilities to do and make things.
Open Doors for Lanark Children and Youth is the accredited child and youth mental health center delivering service throughout Lanark County. Our staff members are highly trained professionals in the fields of family therapy, child and youth counselling and early childhood education. Professionalism is assured as each staff is a member of a regulatory college including Ontario College of Social Work and Social Services, and the Ontario College of Psychotherapists. Each staff member is dedicated to improving the mental health and well being of children, youth and families. When necessary, we arrange for consultation with other mental health professionals in other organizations to secure the most appropriate services to assist children and youth to be healthy. We believe that each child, youth and parent/guardian possesses the strengths and resources to be successful.
